NQF | National Qualifications Framework | The structure that organises and classifies qualifications and competencies in South Africa. It consists of registered standards, units and qualifications at eight levels of learning. |

OBET | Outcomes-Based Education & Training | Focuses on the learning outcomes to be achieved. Learning programmes are designed to help learners achieve those desired outcomes |
OCTO | Quality Council for Trades and Occupations | The QCTO is one of the three Quality Councils provided for in the National Qualifications Framework Act (NQF Act No 67 of 2008). The QCTO was established under the Skills Development Act and became operational on the 1st April 2010 following the publication of Government Gazette No 33059, 1st April 2010 |
RPL | Recognition of Prior Learning | Means the comparison of the previous learning and experience of a learner (based on evidence from a persons work and life experience rather than a formal course) against learning outcomes required for a specific qualification. |
